MISSION & OBJECTIVE

The Utopia Film Festival desires passionately to identify, promote and engage entertaining and enlightening cinematic works of all genres and styles. Seeking always to provide its audience and filmmakers an enjoyable experience, this event also pursues works that tackle humanity's never ending quest, in all its variables, for the perfect 'Utopian' existence.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
2011 will mark the Seventh Annual Utopia Film Festival. The festival will take place from October 28-30, 2011.

This festival takes place in Greenbelt, Maryland - one of America's first planned communities, designed and built under the Roosevelt Administration's New Deal Federal Works Program in the 1930s. Films are screened at venues throughout Greenbelt, including the Historic P&G Old Greenbelt Theater. Greenbelt is located between Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD and attracts its audience from the local and greater metropolitan communities.

We are currently accepting film and video features and documentaries of all types and lengths for our festival.

While we accept submissions on all themes, however the following are some of the special strands we have planned for our festival:

UTOPIAN VISIONS: Works in any genre which reflect the Utopian ideals upon which places like Greenbelt were founded. Films in this strand will address themes of community building, promoting diversity, bettering social and economic conditions, or preserving the environment. Awards are given to the best films in this category.

KIDS FILMS: Family-friendly animated or live-action works. Films produced by children and teenagers are especially encouraged. Note that youth-produced films can be submitted for free.

HALLOWEEN SCREEN: Since our festival coincides with Halloween, we welcome submissions of films which are appropriate for the season. Horror films (serious or spoofy) are programmed at Utopia.

Deadlines:
We accept Shorts, Short Features and Full Length Features:

Our deadlines are as follows: The earlier you submit, the lower the submission fee!
