The Utopia Film Festival is held annually in Greenbelt, Maryland, located near Washington, D.C.
We are now in our 16th year. Utopia seeks documentaries, feature films, shorts and animation which creatively explore the personal, social, political, cultural and environmental issues which challenge humanity’s never-ending quest for a better world.
Greenbelt was one of America’s first planned communities, a New Deal city built by the Roosevelt administration in the 1930’s.
The Utopia Film Festival, now in its 16th year, takes its name from the idealistic origins of Greenbelt, described by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt as “the first garden community in the land planned for the uplift and unfolding of the human spirit.”
