UTOPIA FILM FESTIVAL 2020
The Utopia Film Festival searches for and presents films that explore utopian visions in a multitude of forms: cultural, social, political, and environmental to name but a few. From its inception, Utopia has sought quality independent films which reflect the utopian spirit of better living through film: works that entertain, enlighten, and address such themes as community building, cultural diversity, social and economic concerns, and environmental issues. The Utopia Film Festival is also a dedicated supporter of locally produced films and films that focus on local subjects. In addition to these two primary thematic programs, the festival also has several other specialty programs that include experimental films, and animated films created by the young.
Greenbelt, Maryland's Utopia Film Festival launched in October, 2005, and is Prince George's County, Maryland's first international film festival. The Utopia Film Festival takes its name from the the utopian origins of Greenbelt, a suburban Washington, D.C. city built in the 1930s during the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration as an innovative garden community aimed at harmonious and cooperative living. Utopia is an all-volunteer project of non-profit Greenbelt Access Television, the festival's primary sponsor.
